AARP Medicare Advantage Plans 2020
You don’t have to get your basic Medicare plan through Medicare directly. You can receive full Medicare coverage and a whole lot more from a private insurer like AARP. The AARP Medicare Advantage plans for 2020 give you a way to get expansive healthcare coverage from a single plan rather than having to sign up for multiple plans.
There are a few different kinds of Medicare Advantage plans. The largest and most comprehensive ones will cover you for many of the same expenses as Original Medicare, a Medicare Supplement and Medicare Part D. You can get all of that in one plan and often pay much less per month for your coverage. This can be a great way to save some money on your healthcare, and that’s why we recommend every senior check out Medicare Advantage and what these plans have to offer.
Why Use AARP as Your Carrier?
You have so many choices for insurance carriers, but we do want to highlight AARP as a good choice. That’s because we know their reputation for taking care of their customers, for stability and for offering great benefits that many other insurers don’t offer.
AARP has been in this business for decades, so they know what seniors are looking for in a medical insurance plan and they know how to make their plans appealing by offering some real value at no extra cost. You can see just how much the AARP Advantage plans cost by using our website. We offer a free search tool here that will show you the price of AARP Medicare Advantage plans, as well as Advantage plans from other providers in the area. This lets you see how AARP measures up and if they are really the best choice for you. This makes it very easy for you to get a good rate and to not overpay for the plan you are wanting.
AARP has a partnership with United Healthcare, which allows them to reach seniors in more areas and to be connected to more hospitals, pharmacies and other medical facilities. Those connections are important when it comes to Medicare Advantage plans, since the Advantage plans have to operate on a network. Outside of that network of medical facilities that honor the insurer’s plans, there is little to no coverage.
AARP has one of the largest networks, so that means you can be covered by their plans in most places around the US. We do suggest that you examine their network and see if it extends to your local area before you sign up for one of their plans. You can still get one of their Advantage plans if you are outside of AARP’s network. You just may want to sign up for a PPO version of the plan. That means that you can get partial coverage off the network and full coverage on the network.
If you live in their network area, then you will save money with an HMO plan. This covers you only inside the network, and it gives you full coverage there. This is what most people choose, and it is commonly available from insurance carriers, but it may not be the best choice, if you live outside of AARP’s network area.
Coverage Provided by Medicare Advantage
All of the AARP Medicare Advantage plans for 2020 will cover you for most all of Medicare Part A (except for hospice care) and all of Medicare Part B. They also cover you for any emergency medical services you may need, such as trips to the emergency room and ambulance services. They will cover you for any medical services considered to be urgently needed as well, and that can vary from one situation to the next. You can always ask your medical practitioner or medical staff at any treatment facility if you will be covered for any medical services before they are administered to you. This is your right as a patient.
A lot of the AARP Medicare Advantage plans will also cover the cost of routine medical examinations, such as checkups for your hearing or general wellness. They can cover durable medical equipment and even prescription drugs. Look closely at what the plan is providing you and ensure that it is relevant coverage before you agree to the terms of the plan.
This coverage may overlap with other insurance plans that you have. If you are subscribed to a Medicare Supplement, for instance, then you will be required to cancel it or not get the Advantage plan, since they do overlap. Advantage plans often overlap with healthcare insurance policies that come from employers or unions as well, so you will have to choose between one or the other.
All Advantage plans are compatible with Original Medicare, and they will be compatible with Medicare Part D plans only if Part D is not included in the Advantage policy.
If you have any questions about compatibility, then you can ask our team of healthcare insurance experts. Talk to us to find out what you are eligible for, what plans are going to overlap with one another and what kind of plan might be a good fit for you.
