Medicare Advantage Plans Texas 2020
You get all the same benefits from Medicare Advantage as you do from Original Medicare. That would be all of Medicare parts A and B. However, Medicare Advantage plans for Texas in 2020 will not cover you for any hospice care, and you will need to get covered by Medicare directly and its Part A policy.
So, you need to have Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage at the same time, but there will not be any overlap between them. You will not end up paying for the same coverage twice, and you will receive complementary coverage that takes care of many of your medical expenses.
Coverage Provided by Medicare Advantage
Let’s talk about what the Advantage plans can cover for you, because they do more than just cover the cost of Medicare Part A and Part B. They will also cover any visits you have to the emergency room or ambulance services that you receive. In fact, every emergency care service is covered under Medicare Advantage.
They will also cover the cost of any medical services that your healthcare provider classifies as urgently need. Now, that could include things like surgery, medical tests, medications, doctor’s visits and more. What will be covered and what will fall under this classification will vary based on what your situation is.
That’s only basic coverage that we have talked about so far. There is also some additional coverage provided by these plans, if you get one of the higher coverage options. That would be Medicare Part D coverage, which is included in many Advantage plans. This will cover you for both generic and prescription medications.
Some of the higher coverage plans also cover the cost of annual checkups. So, you could go to a healthcare professional for a routine checkups to see about your general wellness, your vision or your hearing, and that could all be covered by your Advantage plan.
If you look at all the coverage provided by these plans, then you will see that it is much more than just about any other medical insurance plan will cover. These are powerful plans with extensive benefits, and on top of that, the insurance companies that sell them can give you some added benefits. They may provide you with discounts for pharmacies or gyms. They may also cover you for elective treatments that are not considered medically necessary.
Medicare Advantage falls under the Affordable Care Act’s guidelines, which means that it needs to offer medically necessary services. If you try to get some medical treatment that your doctor does not deem to be necessary, then that probably won’t be covered by a Medicare Advantage plan.
The Network Restrictions
Medicare Advantage may be powerful and may be able to do a lot for you, but it also has its limits. These plans are restricted from offering you full coverage if you go outside of the insurance company’s network area. That network area is different for every insurance provider, and some of them have very large networks, but there is still a limit to how far they will extend.
Medicare Advantage plans for Texas in 2020 come in a few varieties, though, and you will see some that are labelled as HMO or PPO plans. The HMO ones are cheaper and will only provide coverage inside the insurer’s network. They offer you full coverage there.
The PPO ones are more expensive. They cover you partially outside the network and fully inside of it. The Advantage plans will be clearly labeled as one or the other network option. There are additional network options too, but those are not going to be as widely available, and many people won’t even qualify for them.
